Owner and Team Principal, Mike Gorton started his racing career in 1990 and won championships in 1992 and 1997 in his own right. He has also been successful in coaching other drivers to victory in 2001 and 2007.

From 1994 – 1997 Mike raced a Fiesta in a national championship which was part of the TOCA package. Mike was a constant front runner achieving many podium finishes and gaining numerous lap records, some of which still stand today.

Mike Gorton has been a racing instructor since 1999 working at numerous circuits both at home and abroad. He has exceptional circuit knowledge and is the ideal person to coach drivers.

During the last eleven years Mike has worked for Track Action, Fusion, Motorsport Vision, Palmer Sport, Everyman and been involved in many manufacturer events for Volvo, VW, Vauxhall, Saab, Ford, Honda, Subaru, Mitsubishi, Mazda, Toyota, Alfa and Renault to name but a few as an Instructor. He also runs Mazda dealership specialist driver days. He has instructed in such cars as Aston Martin, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche, Lotus and Caterhams.

Since 2006 Mike has been responsible for the running of Motorsport Vision’s own track days at Cadwell Park and Oulton Park. He undertakes safety briefings both for track days, school days and corporate events.

At The Racing School he works as a senior instructor on the F1 days, and undertakes the safety briefings for the Supercar experiences and corporate events.

In addition, he runs MSA license courses for prospective race drivers and instructors at Oulton Park, Cadwell Park and Three Sisters.

Racing History

1986 to 1989 - Helped prepare and maintain race cars for North West Motor Sport on a self-employed basis.

1990 to 1992 - St Helens Ford XR2 Challenge: I had many pole positions, podium finishes, fastest laps and four lap records in this Championship. Won the Championship in 1992.

1993 to 1996 - Ford Credit Fiesta Challenge: Started up a three-car race team in TOCA as support race to the British Touring Cars. I had many pole positions, podium finishes, fastest laps and lap records in this Championship. I always finished the Championship in the top five.

1997 - BRSCC Ford Si Challenge (1800Si): Won the Championship

1998 - BRSCC Ford Si Challenge (1800Si): I only contested 4 rounds in this Championship.

1999/2000 - Provided tuition for two racing teams and helped with car set-ups.

2001  - Built Fiesta 1800 Si for 2001 season. Ran this car for Ian Flynn (driver) and instructed him in driving techniques, circuit knowledge and suspension set-ups. Ian finished all 16 rounds, had 13 podium finishes and won the Championship.

2002 - Race preparation of Vectra SRi in Super Coupe Cup. Race preparation and testing a Radical Prosport with a view to racing in the Radical Championship for 2003 season. Entered last race of Radical 2002 season at Donington Park, finished 7th in the race.

2003 - Raced Radical Prosport in 2003 season, best result 5th & 6th. Ran Vectra SRi in endurance and sprint championships. 

2004 - Ran race team for Vectra SRi & Radical Prosport in endurance championship and a Golf Turbo in the VW Cup. Helped another race team in the Mini Cooper cup instructing drivers and preparing cars.

2005 - Ran cars in the Britcar Endurance Championship and also ran a Golf in the VW Championship.

2006 - Involved in running various cars in the Britcar Championship.

In both 2005 and 2006 I ran a team and prepared cars for the EERC 24 Hour race at Silverstone.

2007 - In April 2007 I sold my auto electrical business to concentrate solely on instructing and running my racing team.  We came 2nd in the Britcar Championship and won Class 2 with a Seat Cupra Cup car.  I spent lots of time building the MGA truck during 2007.   

2008 - Ran a Civic and an RSi Beetle in the Britcar Championship.

2009 - Concentrated on instruction and provided transportation and support for other teams. 

2010 - Built two Mazda MX5's and have raced in one round so far of the Ma5da Championship where we achieved two pole positions and two second places.
