SNETTERTON: Saturday, 18 August

Weather conditions couldn't have been much more different for our second visit to the Norfolk track this season. When we first visited Snetterton back in May, conditions were wet and windy and despite it being May, required several layers of clothing. Today, we are greeted with blue skies, beautiful sunshine and temperatures in the 20s, even first thing in the morning. The day got progressively hotter, touching 29 degrees, with only a very light breeze which did nothing to cool anyone down.

We only have one car out this weekend, the MX5 of Peter and Nicola Gillatt, with both Ryan Cefferty and Tony Rodgers having other committments.

Unusually, this weekend comprises two events, one on Saturday and one on Sunday. They are both full events which means that there is a qualifying session and race on both Saturday and Sunday. Saturday also included an hour's practise session.

The practise session went well for MGA, with Peter taking the helm for the first stint, managing a best time of 2:26.05. Unfortunately for Nicola, there were a number of red flags in the session, which meant that she only had time to complete 3 laps, hardly enough time to get up to speed.

Nicola therefore was first out for the 30 minute qualifying session, managing a best time of 2:27.49 before pitting on lap 5 to give Peter his opportunity. He was on it straight away, achieving his best time of 2:26.24. This was enough for 16th place, 4th in class; Nicola was fired up now, wanting to beat her Dad's time.

The BMW M3 of Intersport Racing took pole position (and class honours), followed closely by another M3, run by Michael Symons.

The race started in the blazing sunshine and blue skies, now expected all weekend. As expected, the BMWs at the front of the grid stormed away, the Seats (5 of them!) following close behind.

Nicola was starting the race, and had a Nissan 350Z for company, run by Mission Motorsport for Help the Heroes. The 350Z is in class 1 and is far quicker on the straights, but Nicola was catching up on the approach and through the corners; early on in the race, she had a dice for the corner at Murrays and managed to beat the zed to the corner, but lost out on the Senna straight due to the superior power available.

Nicola showed she was on the pace, by putting in the fastest time of the weekend, with a 2:22.82 on lap 17. Peter took over on lap 20 during the fuel stop and managed a best  time of the race of 2:25.24. The competitive fire was well and truly lit!

The race progressed well, and was won by Intersport Racing's M3; in fact, the first 3 finished the race in the same position as they started.

Peter brought the MGA MX5 home in 14th place overall, but magnificently, 3rd in class! This meant a trip to the podium for the first time this season for Peter and Nicola. A superb result, enjoyed by all the team.

We now look forward to Sunday's qualification and race with newfound confidence and expectations. And all in 30 degree heat...

What our customers say about us...

The car was always prepared to an excellent standard, the set up MGA provided in the paddock was second to none and made going racing very enjoyable. I learnt more in that one season than any other in motor racing thanks to Mike and the Team at MGA Motorsport.
