MGA News

MGA enjoyed their first meeting this season as participants of the MX5 Super Cup running 2 Mazda's and another for sale/hire. Long standing MGA driver, Peter Gillatt and daughter Nicola Gillatt, endured a weekend of hard work and determination each in their own Mazda MX5 mark 3 around Silverstone's international circuit.

Friday consisted of testing for the Gillatt's which gave them the opportunity to get back in the driving seat (literally!). As the day progressed the pair's times appeared to improve and confidence grew in themselves and their cars, with Nicola having to adjust to her brand new car! With a time of 1:23:94 as the best of the day, the pair looked forward to Saturday.

Saturday 5th April: 20 minute practice and qualifying.

With a 20 minute practice provided by the BRSCC led championship it enabled the drivers to polish up any techniques they'd practiced. Followed closely by qualifying! Nicola improved her best time from Friday's testing by four tenths of a second and Peter delivered a time of 1:25:30. The pair managed a 17th and 20th place - a decent achievement considering they'd had no previous practice in car since last season.

Sunday 6th April brought the occasional shower but most important of all race day! With two 20 minutes races (11:50 and 17:35). Race one: Nicola (car number 8) was unfortunate with her start, though managed a solid 16th place; with her father, Peter, (car number 13) just two places behind by the end of the race. It proved to be an interesting race with Peter's battle with car number 21 and an extremely close chase between Nicola and car number 16 on lap 8, 9 and 10 before number 16 was able to pull away slightly.

Race two: consisted of the 24 cars lined up on the grid with Nicola achieving a much better start. Before the race, conditions appeared rather wet though once the race had begun the track had dried up reasonably; proving the executive decision to race on slicks correct!

We now look forward to yet another meeting at Silverstone next weekend, with existing MGA drivers Ryan Cefferty and Dave Whitmore racing a Honda civic in this years Britcar championship.

What our customers say about us...

Whilst we drivers would like to believe that we achieved every result single-handedly, I would have to say that in most cases we wouldn't have been on the podium without the efforts of Mike and the MGA Team in getting us there.
