MX5 Supercup Championship - 17th - 19th October 2014 - Donington Park

Taking place at a windy Donington Park, the last round of the season kicked off with a 20 minute qualifying session on Saturday at 11:10am.  It was a dry track and the session proved a close battle with only a four second difference between the front runners and those at the back of the grid – with the Gillatt pair producing fairly consistent times lap by lap.  As the pair battled one another it wasn't until the last lap that Pete was unfortunately (for him) overtaken by Nicola - though both posted their quickest lap times of the session on the same lap.

After a thorough check over of the cars - carried out up by the MGA team - the Mazda's soon returned to the circuit, eager for Race 1.  This did not prove to be the highlight of Nicola's season as, after a hiccup involving Peter’s car (number 13), Nicola, driving car number 8, found herself stuck in the gravel trap after just 6 laps.  This left Nicola only able to spectate the remainder of the race from Redgate.  However, thankfully Peter was able to finish the race with no damage inflicted on the car.

Post gravel clearing - the second day of the meeting brought Race 2 and with that more wind!  As this was the last race of the year both the Gillatt’s were keen to finish the championship on a high.  Although it was clear after several laps that Nicola's times were not up to the same standard they had been for the rest of the weekend, both cars finished the race with no damage caused - a good end to the season and an exciting race for the likes of Abby Eaton (Championship winner).

MGA would like to thank the BRSCC MX5 Supercup Championship on behalf of the drivers and team for an enjoyable season with the Mazda Mark 3’s.  We are looking forward to the teams final outing at Snetterton next weekend (24th-26th October 2014) with the BMW Compact driven by Nick DeJesus in the MSVT Trackday Trophy and hopefully another successful season in whatever the next year holds!
